IMO Metallica's best song is hmmm ... One. Followed by Sanitarium and Fade to Black.

I like their heavier stuff as well of course, and those songs combine ballads and heaviness. If I was a real ballad kinda guy, I'd picked Nothing Else Matters, but since I heard it on a pop radio I refuse to hear it again
