Deadnight Warrior has already laid out a terrific wish-list that matches a lot of my own '09 must-haves.
Here I go with an approximate wish-list for the remaining 2/3 of this year: (now that I have already had Napalm Death, CC, Hatebreed deliver their bombshells for the year)....My list includes predominantly confirmed new releases and a handful of strongly rumoured, possible ones. Agoraphobic Nosebleed Avulsed Pig Destroyer Blood Freak Behemoth Putrevore Abramelin Suffocation Morbid Angel Devourment Dying Fetus Disgorge Deicide Slayer Vader Nile Obituary Gorgasm Skinless Psycroptic Severe Torture Misery Index .....I'm tired, can't think anymore to add right here now.

Farted, surely you don't mean that Suffocation=Meh, no way
HOWEVER, I gotta say that their last one, and a self-titled disc at that, is my least favourite Suffo album so far. I worship ALL the others, especially my 1-2-3 faves Effigy-BTS-Pierced. Both their EPs are superb. Souls to Deny gives me very mixed feelings. So hey, maybe you aren't altogether completely wrong, cos Souls was their 'comeback' album. And that was no match for their prior 5 studio winners. From the several samples I have heard so far, I'm pretty confident that Blood Oath is gonna be a far meaner, cooler album, all over again.

That's what I meant. I haven't actually heard anything of the new album, and I am looking forward to it, but it just won't live up to Effigy or PFW. Or will it? Hmm...

Aw, I reckon most of us Suffo die-hards are reconciled with the fact that NOTHING can ever quite match the awesomeness of an Effigy or Pierced and Breeding (I love that album). I have a feeling though, that some of the cutting criticisms of their last s-t disc, that many of us fans have made in the Suffo forums, have really stung Mike and Frank, particularly hard. And I have a gut feeling they have taken some of those honest complaints on board, and are out to make certain amends with Blood Oath. So, give it a shot when it finally comes out.

I definitely will. I never give up on a band I like or liked, never. My enthusiasm wanes, sure, but I don't disregard them for a misstep or two when they've proven to deliver the goods in the past.

^^ Alright, spill the beans about METALLICA then,
**but hey, I get your point perfectly, cos I'm pretty much the same about favourite bands (and I idolise Suffocation)....BUT mate, there's gotta be a threshold where patience and devotion snaps....hence my inevitable Metallica reference above. Those dicks didn't just make "one mis-step or two"...They have dropped and lost the ball and slipped, been floored and been out for the count, for what seems like forever. Btw, I forgot to mention that among the fantastic discs of '09 that I have already bought is the latest Cattle Decapitation album 'The Harvest Floor'. And I missed mentioning new Brutal Truth  in my long wish-list earlier. |

Haha. I understand the Metallica question PERFECTLY, believe me. They introduced me to and made me fall in love with metal. For those reasons, and those reasons alone, I continue to hope for another solid album. And my hopes are dashed every time they drop another one. But it is amazing that a band's name power can continue to give it the type of success they were once able to conjure up out of thin air, isn't it?
I've had "The Harvest Floor" sitting on my PC for awhile now. I actually get to DL free copies of Metal Blade releases because I work for a review site and they're kind enough to offer the stuff to us. I've also got new Psyopus and Cannibal Corpse to review. The latter, "Evisceration Plague" is fucking choice. Haven't listened to the former yet. aka Hastmich aka Kevin aka HOLY SHIT IT'S A CLOWN IN THE SEWER

...And mate, I couldn't help but ask you that pointed, teasing question anyway.
You're so right about Metallica's powerful 'brand' status. Gosh, I can confirm how that kind of pulling power has ensured that no matter how very largely, and seemingly irreversibly, diminished the band's brand has been for more than a decade (for me it is), there are still numerous fans like yourself that are still pining for and believing in a new, miraculous modern Metallica album that almost all of us can love and respect, once again. Interesting too, to know that Metallica was your first true initiation into learning to know and love METAL. For me, it has to be mainly Ozzy-era Black Sabbath and DLR-era Van Halen that plunged me headlong into heavy rock-metal. Of the Big Four of thrash, though, Anthrax was my first flame, and there was no looking back, from then on end. Aha, you Metal Blade insider boy, good on ya that you get free access to loads of top-drawer metal releases on that label. If I were you, I'd be drooling for more, and become a grown-up spoilt brat by now. ...Seriously, Metal Blade has always been one of the truest, most reliable and supportive, stand-out special labels for metal bands. I wanna check out some of the reviews you smartly posted in the other thread. Don't wanna sound like I'm bragging, but I was almost begged by a few people at the terrific Razorback Records (specialty label dedicated to brutal-dm and mostly grindcore) to regularly write reviews of old and new releases alike. I had to politely decline, though I was obviously flattered by their gracious offer. Damn, I already read and write tons of stuff for my livelihood. I couldn't commit to writing so many reviews for them and all the extra time and involvement that would entail. Truth is, I'd most likely be a complete bomb if I ever tried writing quality reviews that would actually be any fun and informative for fans to read. I don't know if you'll like The Harvest Floor, but I love it hugely. Hey, give it a serious spin and full listen sometime, bud....Cattle Decapitation are very under-rated yet so very cool. I mean, what could be cooler than having a bunch of animal-loving, human-hating death metallers consistently blasting awesome death-grind in your ears while you read the kind of lyrics that would make the average human wince in terror and anguish. Yeah, Corspegrinder's roared words on the excellent Evisceration Plague comes close enough.

As if a name wasn't powerful enough; it's power grows tenfold when a band takes the low road of appealing to the least common denominator, as Metallica so obviously did once upon a time. But, like the Journey song, I won't stop believing. They're still 3/4's of the band that conjured up some awesome music in the past, so the potential will arguably always be there to see it happen again. I look at a band like Testament and see the truth in that, their most recent album, to me, is as good as any they'd done in the 80's or beyond.
I started listening to my father's CD collection around 10, 11. Prior my music was basically what I heard on the radio: pop, mainstream rock, hip-hop and dance stuff. Suddenly, listening to the likes of Rush, Metallica, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Megadeth, Alice In Chains, I was introduced to a realm of music I had only heard in bits and pieces prior. Writing reviews is something I take much pride in, and love doing for the simple fact that it allows me to dissect an album in print the way I consistently do in my mind. You seem incredibly well-spoken and articulate; if you wrote reviews, I'd read them. Regularly! I can't believe they'd be lacking in fun or information, either. I will do so soon. I've got a pretty big back-order of reviews, some more important than others, but it'll come around the rotation. I'm also looking forward to checking out Vital Remains. aka Hastmich aka Kevin aka HOLY SHIT IT'S A CLOWN IN THE SEWER
