This crazy motherfucker has made some pretty awesome black metal. A touch inconsistent, what with his prison sentence and all, but "Filosofem" is one of the 10 best in the genre IMO. Discuss.

Ah, Burzum, one of my favorite bands.

I love the majority of Varg's works. On the one hand, as a whole, Hvis Lyset Tar Oss is my favorite. On the other hand, Filosofem showcases some of his best ideas and works (Dunkelheit, Jesus Tod, etc). So I'm torn. Lol

I also like his electronic period, or at least Daudi Baldrs anyways.
Great music to facestab to!

I actually only really like the Filofosem album a whole lot, but Jesus Tod is one of my all time favorite metal songs.
Yeah the whole electronic prison album period is pretty rad. I love having that stuff playing while reading or doing brain-work, I find it rather pleasant backround noise.
I don't really even consider Daudi Baldrs to be background noise. I just love the entire atmosphere of that album, especially the title track. It just sounds so dark and medieval... I'm imagining peasants dying of plague, the dark insides of a castle, etc, while I listen to it.
It gives you a feeling of otherworldliness (not a word) and shit. I dig it because it's not altogether distracting, but something you can still get lost in. Backround noise might sound a bit harsh, but I really meant it as a compliment. It's not all "BLARGH RARGH FARGH" like his metal is, but it's still very creative and inspiring.
Hey, Germany only makes good stuff. Teach / Pacman

I should look in to this guy, methinks.
Burzum is Norwegian brosef Pacman

But yes it is good. If you do not check it out we cannot be friends anymore Pacman

Well maybe

But still
Check it out
I wish I could say that I love Burzum.........but I have only found a few songs of Vargs where I've been like "FUCK YEAH! THIS ROCKS!"
Same here, actually. Most of his early work is shit (save for some interesting riffs...the dude just can't do anything with his voice). Filosofem is so damn awesome because the vocal effects don't interfere in his musical creativity.
The Butt got me to download the debut album. I loved the instrumental parts but the effing vocals again!
The vocals on Filofosem are much more tolerable, they are distorted beyond recognition pretty much.

^ That sounds seriously fucking good!
Also, I remember Butt recommending Filosofem to me regarding the vocals thing but I think he warned me that it might be too dark or something for me.
I mentioned that the mix might've been too harsh/abrasive for your liking... I didn't really know what your tolerance was, sound-wise, so I gave a fair warning. Lol
So he's out of prison now or very soon, right? Cross fingers for more musics!
Varg's been out of prison for a little while now yeah.
In the light of that song, I listened to the debut I had DLed some time ago again and this time, I found it quite a lot more to my liking.
I guess one of the reasons is that a bit time has passed and I have had some more metal to listen to.
Another thing could be that now that I have heard Mille's vocals, Varg's don't sound half bad anymore Lol
You shut your dicking mouth. Mille's vocals aren't that bad. Besides have you listened to Varg's vocals on "War"? Erk

There's someone on the forum me and The_Butt frequent (herzeleid.com) that constantly uses that song as his reason why metal sucks as a whole. Thanks, Varg.
Just listened to it today, and found out there was no real point to listen carefully to the vocals or understand the lyrics.
But I sorta liked it. As I told Butt, I'm kinda in the mood for some music now that would kick my ass
