I like these guys. Clear female voice is an excellent change of pace, and the guitarist is a good singer too. They do excellent ballads, and a lot of their rock tunes are great too. Anyone heard "The Islander" yet? Excellent folk ballad.
Either way, they certainly aren't a bad metal band-they've even survived the lead singer ditching them (although the hardcore elitist fanboys keep on crying about the britney spears wannabe replacement, I don't get it). So yeah. Discuss and stuff.
Tarja's operatic BS is the biggest thing that turned me off about the band, aside from the very poppy riffs and song structures, so I actually prefer Annette to Tarja.

I'd be lying if I said I was a fan of the band though.
I got Once. At one point I listened to it quite a lot but eventually got bored of it.
I do like Tarja's singing though
I really like this band; they got me into metal weirdly. Dark Passion Play is excellent, their best album.

This, I really enjoy listening to their music, Whoever Brings The Night is an awesome song. When I get some money I am definately getting more of their albums.
Sibling's a big fan of Nightwish and I enjoy listening to them. Tarja got kicked out by the way, not her ditching the band iirc.

Not a huge fan by any standards, but I do miss Tarja. You knew it was her singing with how she sang. I haven't really listened to much of Nightwish with Anette as the singer, but I'll give them more of a listen some time down the road.
Their older albums really were something. And Once was ok too, but not as good as Wishmaster. After Tarja left, I didn't see anything really good coming for Nightwish, since Tarja's voice was the thing that really made Nightwish stand out in the beginning.
I prefer the new singer, Tarja was okay when she sang with the bassist as well to balance her voice out, but by herself I dont enjoy the sound and I cant often understand what she is saying.
