There's been some changes, such as the structure of the forum (it's been more streamlined, less subforums and less clutter)... and there's a new subforum dedicated to reviews of metal albums by the staff!

Is it just me or are the subforums categorization really weird? I mean there's doom and speed together...along with glam as "Old School"...
I only put doom in with those other subgenres because IMO, it is an "Old School" genre, with older doom bands like Candlemass, Pentagram, Sabbath, etc. Theres exceptions yeah (like death doom and shit like that, but death doom and funeral doom would be filed in extreme metal anyways).
I'd like to see something like this for the different metal genres, rather than the grouping we have now. It's pretty close to what we had before.
Black Metal
Death Metal
Doom Metal
Heavy/Speed Metal
Power/Prog/Folk Metal
Thrash Metal
Other Metal
Not too cluttered and avoids the problem of having extremely different bands in the same subforum. You could also throw speed in with thrash and merge heavy and doom, but I like this way better, since a lot of heavy metal isn't very similar to doom.
I dunno. Part of the reason we decided to group them by style/chonological-relevance as opposed to genre, was to save clutter on the boards, and to not have a bunch of tiny subforums with maybe 10-15 threads in each.
Once (if) the forum becomes more active, then I could see splitting them out (it'd take a lot of work moving the individual threads but I'd be willing to do it), but as it is... eh. I just don't think we're active enough yet.

Imo, once we do get more activity, we'd have a buttload of threads that would take ages to move into different categories so it'd be easier to do it now but then we'd be making this merger redundant.
Still, the more I think of it, the less I like the thought of having a clusterfuck of stylistically different bands together, like Doom with Speed/Power. So like when someone who likes mainly BM looks into the Extreme Metal subforum, they'd be looking at a lot of bands that aren't relevant to them.
