Easily, My favorite band of all time.

Endgame is pretty damn good.
Yeah, it's their best since Rust in Peace, IMO. Finally a return to form.

I've bought, heard and loved tons of far better metal albums, just this year alone. Endgame might be better than some other Megadeth misfiring duds like Risk, Youthansia or Cryptic Writings, for instance---but it's a far cry from being one of their 'best'...Not by a long shot. I rate half a dozen Megadeth discs a lot higher than Endgame. I honestly found this pretty crappy and lame. Pure & simple as that!

Erk Youthanasia? A dud?

Not gonna lie I found Youthanasia to be sorta boring... I like a few songs but stuff like KIMB, Peace Sells, RIP, or even Endgame is 10000% better.

I actually bought Endgame Matt. Pacman But lets take the Megadeth talk to the Megadeth thread my good men. Razz

Okay, to be honest, I'm not too fond of Endgame either, for a number of unspecified reasons but calling Youthanasia a dud is taking it a bit too far, imo. Tbh, I even liked Cryptic Writings and Risk as well.
^ I just don't see how calling Youthasia a 'dud' (and it is one, to me, at any rate) is "taking it a bit too far". Unless you're somebody that thinks that Megadeth can do no wrong, ever. Look, I'm a Megadeth die-hard in my own right, but I honestly found Youthanasia (and Risk, which is even worse) horrendously tame, lame material especially when stacked against Megadeth's prior early-era classics which I adore. Not every band remains the same, or can be consistently great over a long career. I can accept that, and pull no punches in pointing it out regarding specific records that let me down. Megadeth, in the '90s, really stripped down to being much too commercial, melodic, mainstream 'accessible' for my tastes. They watered down the mean, dirty, danger and edge to their music in those albums. Even Countdown is something I find mostly over-rated, though it's plenty good, overall. The System Has Failed (or even The World Needs a Hero, prior to that) was a rollicking rebound after the disappointments of the past handful of discs, and Chris Poland made a definite difference on that one (i.e TSHF)... Since then, though, it seems as if Dave has been trying and failing to make a replica of that rude rockin' record. UA was pretty average and now Endgame sinks my boat wayyyy under.

All that said, I am still keen to watch them slay onstage on the Carnage tours in Jan/Feb. Maybe, with any luck, they can make some of the songs off Endgame really come alive LIVE, and have them sound a lot cooler than they do on the studio disc.
I feel the same way about Youthanasia as I do about Metallica's self-titled: the band took a wrong turn, but still managed to put out a solid piece of good old heavy metal.
Dave Ellefson rejoins Megadeth:

Quote:MEGADETH founder and frontman Dave Mustaine has announced the return of original bassist David Ellefson (1983-2002) to the iconic multi-platinum group. This reunion is appropriately timed to Megadeth’s upcoming historic month-long Rust In Peace 20th anniversary tour which launches March 1 in Spokane, WA. At these incredibly special shows, Megadeth will play their landmark, genre-defining 1990 album Rust In Peace in its entirety, in addition to other Megadeth favorites.

"This shows the power of brotherly love and forgiveness,” Mustaine says. “David Ellefson belongs in Megadeth. Next we are going to show you the power of getting your asses kicked...HARD!"

David Ellefson concurs: "This is a huge moment for all of us, band and fans alike. It is a great celebration of the music from one of the biggest landmark albums of our career."

Ellefson will join Mustaine and Megadeth band members Shawn Drover (drums) and Chris Broderick (guitar) on tour in support of the group’s current CD Endgame, which has received some of the highest critical accolades of the band’s career.

"We'd like to thank James LoMenzo for several years of loyal service on the bass, and wish him the very best," Mustaine adds.

FUCK YES!
So Dave just kicks James out? Kind of a douche move. Still, I'm really happy that Ellefson is back. This is the best lineup that Megadeth has had in years.
Lomenzo is leaving for whatever reason. I don't think he was kicked out.
Yeah, I remember it being mentioned that he was leaving.

I'm not that interested in Megadeth but an original member coming back is always good.
Now they need to convince Marty Friedman to come back
I don't see that happening, tbh
