Any fans? I like them, but not to any extreme degree. It's really about certain songs over most of their albums, with the only real "complete" record (to my ears) being the phenomenal "Lateralus". Songs I enjoy:

Opiate
Sober
Anema
Stinkfist
Eulogy
Third Eye
The Grudge
The Patient
Schism
Disposition
Ticks & Leeches
Jambi
10,000 Days (Wings Pt 2)
Rosetta Stoned
Intension
Right In Two

If anything, even if you don't like them, you have to admit they're one of more...curious...bands out there. A lot of spiritual, mythical, philosophical and intellectual content within not only their music, but their individual beliefs and such. Not that the latter has much to do with the music on a base level...but when you dig in deeper you realize it has a lot to do with it.
Not the biggest Tool fan. I like a few songs (Intermission/Jimmy, Message to Harry Manback, Die Eier Von Satan, Stinkfist, etc), but they've never struck me as amazing beyond a few songs.
I think Maynard Keenan's vocal abilities are very impressive. Not to mention the off-kilter drumming of Danny Carey. Those two elements are what draw me into loving certain Tool songs. The riffs are different, but nothing spectacular.
I'm actually not the biggest fan of Maynard's vocals. Can't pin down why, but I just don't really care for his voice.

Danny Carey is a very... eccentric drummer, playing-wise anyways.
I got quite a few friends who tell me I should get into Tool.
Maybe I'll DL some albums in summer when I got time to absorb new stuff.
Great band.
I was a massive fan in high school, I've cooed down a bit but they are still one of my top favorites.

Lateralus is indeed one of their best albums, AEnima and Salvial are up there too.
10,000 Days wasn't bad, but it's not their best either. It has some killer songs though, "Jambi", "Rosetta Stoned", "The Pot."
Not at all a fan. My bro is however
Damn, I really hate them. Seriously. But I guess they're slightly more tolerable than something like Trivium or Avenged Sevenfold, or System of a Down etc etc that a lot of Tool fans seem to dig, as well. Lol
Not entirely sure why a lot of Tool fans would find something similar in those acts, but hey, relating a band to their fans is always a treat. I like how so many Lamb of God fans also like Korn. Facepalm
^ haha, maybe these Tool fans aren't necessarily digging something too similar in those other bands I cited above. I hate LoG as well, and Korn's s-t disc is the only of theirs I really ever cared about. BUT, I love Slipknot, and proud of it Evilgrin And aha, 'relating a band to its fans' you say. Buddy, I like Fleetwood Mac, Madonna and Marilyn Manson. Analyze THAT!!!!! Lol Lol
Oh yeah? I like Johnny Cash, Mayhem, Korn (especially the Issues album) and Billy Joel. I win.
Loved Opiate. But after Undertow every song to me sounded like a re"Tooling" of the song Sober. I give them lots of credit for maintaining their own identity. But I find much about them boring. Friends have tried to illuminate me to the glory of this band. But their appeal eludes my tastes for some reason.
The drumming and more "textural" guitar playing are what I like most about them.
The feedback laden guitar solo that is "Triad" is badass.
I love Tool. I can easily see where people don't though. I like all of their instrumentalists. Justin Chancellor is amazing at bass, especially live.

Right on, bro. Keep on prying open your third eye.
It was sufficiently pried, I believe. I haven't listened to Tool in some time, no interest, really. Nowadays, I go for A Perfect Circle when I want to hear Maynard. I find his singing so much better on Mer De Noms and Thirteenth Step. Blasphemy? Perhaps.
I don't listen to tool often either, but sometimes it just hits the spot. Mostly just stuff from Lateralus, really.
Tool is one of those well known bands that I've never bothered to listen to much
