What are your favorites and why?

"Pititis, te invoco" by Brujeria, It's heavy yet extremely catchy. Brujeria changes drummers like pants but I think it was Raymond Herrera, though Nicholas Barker also did work on the album.

"Beyond the North Waves" Horgh's finest work imo, but it adds to the epic nature of the song so much.

"Looking Down the Cross" by Megadeth. Gar Samuelson made drum playing look easy yet did some of the most difficult and awesome drumming ever. His fills are my favorite.

"Disciple" Slayer. Not actually Dave Lombardo, but still absolutely awesome.

"Angel of Death" This one is Dave Lombardo and part of why he's the best ever imo!
Black Sabbath - The Wizard
Bill Ward, on top of his game. Lol Not really much more that needs to be said, other than that this kind of bluesy drumming is why I love Bill's drumming so much.

Behemoth - Slaves Shall Serve
One of the tightest drumming performances I've heard. Excellent fills, really precise, it has everything.

Burzum - Jesu død
May not be the most technically proficient drumming in the world, but it is just so damn energetic and frantic-sounding. I love it.
Rainbow - Stargazer
Cozy Powell at the top of his game.

Black Sabbath - Supernaut
Do I need to say any more?
I really Like 13 Steps to Nowhere by Pantera
Fuck yeah, Gar Samuelson!
I'd also like to mention Skull Beneath the Skin
Strapping Young Lad - Skeksis (Gene Hoglan)

I consider Gene to be the most intimidating metal drummer, and one of the most talented. He's literally a beast of a man and watching him play is like watching a viking rape and pillage a helpless village by himself. His double-bass work is astonishing.

Tool - Ticks & Leeches (Danny Carey)

This guy is the Neil Peart of metal drumming, his ability to hold 4 separate rhythms with each limb is incredible, and his ear for flavorful fills and rolls is like listening to a genius at work. This is what Mike Portnoy honestly wishes he could be.

Mayhem - Illimunate Eliminate (Hellhammer)

Best BM drummer ever? Close enough to the truth. His diversity of skills is on full display on this track. The highlight is the last minute or so.

Death - Flesh And The Power It Holds (Richard Christy)

Awesome drummer and the best part of Iced Earth for awhile. I love how he mixes speed and brutality with such an appreciation of jazz techniques and a flair for over-dramatic fills. He's also pretty damn funny.

Meshuggah - Bleed (Tomas Haake)

This guy has a style all his own, one of incredibly disciplined polyrhythms and a mechanical nature that likens itself to a drum machine. The guy basically is a machine, and thinks so far outside of the box that his work with Meshuggah is what makes them stand out aurally more than most metal bands.

Mastodon - March of the Fire Ants (Brann Dailor)

In all of metal, no drummer IMO brings more passion, intensity and drive to their respective band than Dailor does to Mastodon. He's an absolute animal and combining the thick aggression with such technical sharpness reminds me so much of John Bonham.
Inferno, Frost and Tim Yeung. Awesome drummers.
Tom Hunting - Exodus Bonded By Blood /Tempo of the Damned CD's.
Away - Voivod Killing Technology, Dimension Hatross, Nothingface, Phobos, Katorz albums.
Emil from Marduk- World Funeral; The Legion - Revocation, Devian - God to the Ill Fated.
Nick Barker - Dimmu Borgirs Puritanical CD.
Dale Crover - Melvins Houdini CD.
Sean Reinert - Death Human, Cynic - Focus.
Gene Hoglan - Death Thought Patterns/Symbolic. Dark Angel - Darkness Descends.
Gar Samuelson - Killing Is MY Business/Peace Sells.
Paul from Cannibal Corpse - everything from Vile - Evisceration Plague.
Bill Ward - the first 9 Sabbath albums.
Tommy Alderage - Ozzy's Speak of the Devil Album/Randy Rhoads Tribute.
Nicko McBrain Iron Maiden Peace of Mind - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son.
Clive Burr - Iron Maiden, Killers, No. of the Beast.
Phil Taylor - Motorhead Bomber/Ace of Spades/No Sleep Till Hammersmith.
Brian Dixon - Cathedrals 7th Coming.
Reed Mullin - Corrosion of Conformity, Technocracy, Blind CDs.
Mackie from Cro Mags - Age of Quarrel.
Dave Lombardo - Slayer Haunting the Chapel, Reign in Blood. Testament - The Gathering, Fantomas - Directors Cut.
Paul Bostoph - Slayer God Hates Us All, Undisputed Attitude, Testament - Formation of Damnation; Forbidden Evil Demo, Forbidden Evil CD, Twisted into Form.

Now ..as to why. All these guys add key elements combining ferocious power, technical brilliance, and the ability to overplay & yet knowing when to & when not to. Theres more that deserve to be mentioned but it's late.

Agree completely with this list. Some of these would be on my list too. And Brann Dailor is incredible, my favorite drummer in all of metal right now.

Mastodon-The Wolf is Loose

Such great drumming from Brann Dailor on this one. I'm always amazed at how clean his fills are and was even more impressed when I saw them live and he plays mostly single stroke. WOW!!!

Anything from the first 9 Sabbath albums.

Speaking of Death, I would have to add Crystal Mountain to that. The ride cymbal patterns are amazing in that song.

Sodom-Code Red

That song is crazy!!! So metal and Bobby Schottkowski's drumming on it is incredible. Simply amazing!
I love all the drumming on the Symbolic album. I heard the few demos and was amazed at how good a drum programmer Chuck was. Having Gene do the real thing on the real album just sounds so fucking epic.

The Beatles - Ticket to Ride

FUCK. YES. This song may have one of the most amazing drum parts I have ever seen.

Rush doesn't really count as metal, does it? Because YYZ is fuckimg amazing live.

The drum parts on "The Faded Line" and "Blood Of The Scribe" by Lamb of God are pretty amazing.

Behemoth's "Ov Fire and the Void" IMO almost has a better drum part than Slaves Shall Serve. Seriously-that shit is fucking amazing.
Anything involving Brann Dailor is a correct answer.
Cadi: If we're talking non-Slaves Shall Serve Behemoth, Inner Sanctum is strictly and objectively better ldo

Not necessarily when talking about drum parts though. Inner Sanctum is a masterpiece, but the drumming on OFATV is just fucking BROOTAL.

Inner Sanctum showcases his skills (and quite nice, tasteful cymbal arrangements) though. Ov Fire and the Void doesn't really have much going for it IMO other than fast, precise doublebass work.

This. And also...

Converge - Phoenix in Flames, Thaw, Concubine, etc. (Ben Koller)

I don't care if the band itself is not considered within the "metal" spectrum 'cause he's a varied technically proficient drummer in studio and live. ie. He's awesome.
Every fucking song on Darkness Descends.
Mark Greening - Electric Wizard - (especially) Wizard in Black
Anything from Inferno really

Apart from that, Lamb of God, Gojira, Augury ... Nile's drummer tear asses apart too

Oh, here's a video I did a while ago. It's a troll btw, I like rock
