One of the originators of hardcore punk, and probably my favorite hardcore band. My War is a fantastic album.
I'm sure that NapalmKid likes them, as he is a fan of hardcore. Anyone else?
Late reply, twins...But yeah, you bet on me right. I love Black Flag as I do plenty of other hardcore-punk music and acts, over the years. Black Flag have been top-notch hardcore punk pioneers and one of my early gateways to the 'scene' as a fan, ever since. I owe them a lot.
twins, I reckon you already know and like many other hardcore acts. BUT, buddy, in case you haven't heard them yet, I'd love to encourage you to definitely check out Sick Of It All----a New York hardcore legend and one of my biggest hardcore heroes of all time.
I just got into hardcore relatively recently, so I haven't actually heard Sick Of It All yet. I've heard lots of good things about them, though.
Oh, well...maybe if you delve deeper into the hardcore scene, you'd find many acts that you'll really enjoy a lot. Though, I gotta tell you that over the past several years, sadly, there have been way too few emerging hardcore bands that are actually top-notch. Most of the hardcore hotshots that I love are actually older, cooler, established vets, so to speak.
Sick Of It All are so phenomenally cool, that it hurts.

You must give them a serious try, sometime soon.
Bump. I can't be the only one on this forum that likes hardcore (or would like it if they listened to it), especially since its so similar to thrash.
I remember my friend showing them to me years ago. Riffage was pretty cool, but unfortunately Black Flag just didn't click.
Black Flag with Rollins is pure raw energy. Phenomenal.
Pink Flag is better
i do like Damaged though
I'm surprised you prefer Damaged. Seems more... extreme or something than what you usually like.
I guess so, but that's probably because I've just never gotten around to listening to anything like it. it's like with metal: I assumed for a long time that I wouldn't like it and never tried it out, but when I listened to Black Sabbath I quite enjoyed it, and it's opened my eyes to the genre as a whole (although I'm still not a huge fan).
That's ok. Sabbath is really THE heavy metal band. And the first metal band I listened to as well.
actually this brings up a question I've been wondering for a while: where should I go from here in terms of metal? like I said I enjoy Black Sabbath, and I'd be willing to try most things as long as they don't have overly growly or shrieky vocals, since that never really appealed to me
I'd say that for now, continuing on the Sabbath path and sticking to doom metal and traditional heavy metal would be a great idea.
Witchfinder General,
Pagan Altar and
Saint Vitus are all very good old doom bands, while new ones worth checking out include
Blood Ceremony,
Ghost and
Witch. My money's bet on you liking Pagan Altar and Ghost the most. As far as traditional heavy metal goes,
Iron Maiden and
Judas Priest are mandatory listening (I'd say they're mandatory listening in general, simply because they're two of the biggest names in metal).
Dio-era Sabbath and his
solo stuff are excellent as well. Of course, check out more Ozzy-era stuff if you haven't yet.
the judas priest, ghost, blood ceremony, saint vitus, and witchfinder general ones were my favourites BUT its all pretty groovy
Glad to see yer liking the bands Ogre posted, they're pretty slammin'.
also Stained Class is possibly the best pun album title I've ever seen
Also check out the post I made with a big list of nwobhm (new wave of british heavy metal) in I believe the Saxon thread in Old School.
As well as the NWOTHM thread.
Watching some Henry Rollins standup shows right now

he seems like a hell of a guy, a true exemplar, if you will.
