This would not be an adequate Power metal thread without Ensiferum. They are quite possibly the best Folk metal band out there IMO. While I enjoy the Jari era ensiferum the Petri era is still worth a listen, and I am excited for their new CD this fall!

Agreed Ensiferum own, I can't believe they're touring with Tracedawn aswell.

I haven't bothered downloading it yet. I've heard that it has a lot of symphonic elements, which makes me sad. That's okay, though; I'm perfectly happy just listening to their self-titled.
I was one of the ones who said fuck no Petri didn't ruin ensiferum...........but maybe he did listening to this cd. I thought Victory Songs was really good. It was different but still very good. This new one however...........
I will admit there are some good songs on it like the title track "From Afar" and "Elusive Reaches". The parts I am most disappointed in are the long songs I think that they may just be too much for Ensiferum. I mean they aren't Opeth, they don't need 11 and 12 minute songs. Also them completely fucking up Stone Cold Metal which is kickass until the middle. I mean they REALLY fuck that song in the ass.
I recently got into Ensiferum, and while I appreciated them before their show, they really conquered me on stage. Almost perfect balance between folk, melodeath and epicness, my best show of the year.
Their debut album is my favourite, obviously because each and every one of it's 12 tracks are super-kickass (except maybe Goblins' Dance), but I think From Afar is great too ! It's too short, but every track is great and I think the two epics really bring something new to band, I love them.
For me the setback was Victory Songs, because without being a bad album, there just wasn't enough good songs to compete with the others, again in my opinion.
Ensiferum is ass-kick personified. Smoking Ruins is awesome.
Just got a whole bunch off my mate, I love it. Token of Time, Goblins Dance, Blood is the Price of Glory are all amazing as fuck.
I guess folk's just not my thing. They're good (one of the select few bands in this genre I can say that about) but nothing really entices me to give a second listen.
