Discuss black metal here. Bands in this style usually employ shrieked vocals, and highly distorted guitars; playing cold, tremolo-picked melodies. Examples: Darkthrone, Emperor, Burzum.

Discuss death metal here. Bands in this style usually employ fast tempos, deep growling vocals, and morbid lyrics. Melodic death can be discussed here as well. Examples: Death, Morbid Angel, Dark Tranquillity.

Discuss thrash here. Bands in this style usually use fast, percussive and low-register guitar riffs; and are known for their fast tempo and aggression. Examples: Slayer, Metallica, Exodus.

Discuss doom metal here. Bands in this style use very slow tempos, and thicker guitars; intended to evoke a sense of despair, dread, and impending doom. Examples: Black Sabbath, Candlemass, Grand Magus

Discuss grind, slam, and gore metal here. Bands in this style draw inspiration, musically and lyrically, from some of the most abrasive music genres. Examples: Napalm Death, Devourment, Brutal Truth

Discuss power metal here. Bands in this style use clean vocals, are melodic, and oftentimes use keyboards. Examples: Wintersun, Blind Guardian, HammerFall.

Discuss traditional heavy metal here, as well as speed metal bands. Bands in this style typically are fast and use clean vocals. Examples: Judas Priest, Motörhead, Iron Maiden.

Discuss metalcore here. Bands in this style incorporate elements of hardcore punk and heavy metal. Deathcore is to be discussed here as well. Examples: Bring Me the Horizon, All That Remains, Between the Buried and Me

Discuss other metal genres, like Industrial metal, Nu-metal, Progressive metal, etc here. General metal discussion can go here as well.
